Seasonal Science Bulletin Board

I wanted a bulletin board based on something we've been working on,  and decided on science. We identified all the science we see around us in the fall season. Then, I can just update the board for winter in December. They thought of things like making hot chocolate, leaves in a pile, colder temperatures, etc. Then they had to explain the science behind it. I think it turned out great. I love the window. I used a transparency sheet for the glass!

March Madness Bulletin Board

We're doing a multiplication challenge that is March Madness themed, and I got the UNC Tar Heels. So, I got busy making some logos and things for the bulletin board.

For my door. I can't help but make the same face when I walk by him.

The board - each student gets a basketball and puts a sticker on when they've passed off facts.

Our Ram flag - We carry him with us everywhere. He gets taped to our lunch table and everything. They've named him "Rammy"

Painting without a brush - Winter Scene

I decided to talk about texture and use different items to paint without actually using a paintbrush. The kids had fun, and they turned out really well!

Quotation Marks

Here is a quick fun lesson on quotation marks... color some macaroni noodles green and red using food coloring. Then have students write a sentence that uses dialogue (I just happen to like to make mine rhyme!). Use the green macaroni for when the talking starts, and the red for when the talking stops.

Constellation bulletin board

I had my students write constellation stories. They had to choose a character and come up with a way for the character to end up in the stars as a constellation. The stories were really great, and the board turned out cute! (I pulled out my star fabric for the background, and my handy astronaut from many years ago!)

Winter Bulletin Board

We had a day with a two-hour weather delay, so I came up with a quick bulletin board for winter. The kids wrote about a favorite book.

Fall Watercolor Trees

It was time for the quarterly behavior celebration, and I had the art club as usual. I found this idea on this website. A perfect fall project, and they turned out amazing (especially since I had 5 kindergarteners in my group - yikes!).

Thankful Turkey

It's always interesting to me what the kids say they're thankful for. I love pulling this turkey out every few years and doing some "thankful" writing!

Spiderwebs

On Halloween we had holiday centers with 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes. I chose to do spider webs with paper plates and yarn. I was worried that this would be too easy, but it wasn't. It kept them busy the whole time, and many struggled with the whole lacing up and down concept. Once again, it made me realize how little exposure they get to arts and crafts! They loved the project, and they even helped clean up the huge mess we made from the hole punches and the spider rings (I cut off the ring part).

Fall Bulletin Board - Good Citizens

This board had to be quick and simple - We'd discussed good citizens in Social Studies, so this was a good way to display what they had come up with and incorporate fall.

Back-to-School Bulletin Board - Road Trip

Our principal set the theme this year as "Road Trip to Success" so my board kept with that theme. Each student had a suitcase so they could share what they were bringing on our road trip!

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is not my favorite day at school, but I know the kids enjoy it. We made heart fish, and they turned out pretty cute! You need two big hearts for the body, a medium heart for the tail, and a small heart for the lips. And an eye!

Art Club - Painting

I had to adapt a bit for my age group (I had k-5 all at once). So I put the tape on for the trees ahead of time. We talked about painting the "negative" and they really enjoyed using the watercolors. They turned out great!

Fluffy snowman

We did holiday centers again with 3rd and 4th grades. I found a cute idea on pinterest to use shaving cream and glue to make a fluffy paint to make snowmen. We used q-tips as "brushes." I combined that idea with an old watercolor project I used to do where we painted snowmen snowglobes. I think they turned out great!

Back to School Bulletin Board

Well, school is starting back up. This means a lot less crafty time for me. I always love doing my back-to-school bulletin board, so here is this year's board:

Winter Bulletin Board

To go along with our opinion writing, I had the kids respond to the prompt "Winter is a great season." We were able to crank this out in one session, they were superstars and worked so hard! And I'm so glad I'll be able to leave it up into January.

Halloween Spiders

We did rotating classes this morning - third through fifth grades. I decided to do a craft... We made these spiders with pipe cleaners and pony beads. The kids loved them and they turned out great!

Fall trees

Every year classes are asked to make decorations for the fall festival. I saw these cute puzzle piece trees. Paper bags, spray paint, and glue!

Pasta Skeletons

This is sonething I've done for all ten years I've taught third grade. I love teaching the skeletal system around Halloween - it just works! It's nice to take a little break from the daily routine to have an artsy moment (although this always reminds me why I hate white glue!). We had a half day this week so it was perfect for doing this project. They turned out cute as always!
